Who owns Somerset Collection mall?

The Somerset Collection has a number of different water exhibits located at various locations around the shopping center. In 1969, Saks Fifth Avenue constructed a stand-alone store in the prosperous suburb of Troy, which is located 16 miles north of the city of Detroit on Big Beaver Road.

On top of the existing Saks, a new one-story premium shopping center called the Somerset Mall that was designed by Louis G. Redstone Associates was constructed. The Somerset Mall is anchored by both the current Saks and a new Bonwit Teller. There was an overall increase of 35 stores, some of which were I.

Miller, Abercrombie & Fitch, Mark Cross, and FAO Schwarz locations. In 1988, Bonwit Teller undertook a significant shop remodel, but the business was forced to shut down two years later due to financial difficulties. In the years 1991 and 1992, the shopping mall was rebranded as the Somerset Collection, a second floor was constructed, and a Neiman Marcus location was established where the former Bonwit Teller formerly stood.

The expansion and renovation of Saks, which was finally finished in August of 1992, allowed for the installation of more high-end boutiques like Tiffany’s. On August 11, 1996, co-owners Forbes/Cohen Properties and Frankel Associates opened a new three-story expansion across from Somerset Mall that cost $200 million and had 940,000 square feet.

The expansion was designed by JPRA Architects. The success of the remodeled mall prompted the co-owners to do so. The three-story addition was given the name Somerset North and was anchored by Michigan’s first Nordstrom and a Hudson’s department store, which later became a Marshall Field’s and is now a Macy’s.

  • Following the rebranding of Marshall Fields to Macy’s in 2006, Somerset Mall became one of just three shopping centers in the United States to offer all four major department shops.
  • A covered walkway that is 700 feet long and called the “Skywalk” stretches across Big Beaver Road and connects the two shopping complexes.

The covered skybridge that was climate-controlled was one of the first of its kind to be built in the country. It included moving walkways to transport customers from Somerset Collection South to Somerset Collection North. The initial section of the Collection, Somerset South, underwent refurbishment in the year 2004.

The lighting within the shopping center was created by Paul Gregory of Focus Lighting, and the facility also has glass elevators, fountains, and a continuous skylight. The Somerset Collection is home to a number of renowned sculptures, one of which is a Sorvikivi Floating Stone fountain from Finland.

Mall at Millenia, located in Orlando, Florida, was based on Somerset Collection and has a design that is quite similar to that of Somerset Collection. Mall at Millenia was likewise designed by JPRA Architects. Neither shopping center features any kiosks.

  1. The Forbes Company purchased a nearby land in December 2009, on which an open-air mixed-use complex that was going to be called the Pavilions of Troy was scheduled to be built.

After determining that the Somerset site had “great growth potential,” Saks decided to rebuild its shop in 2012, and the company referred to the renovations as “strategic capital investments.” Chick-fil-A launched its first site in Metro Detroit in the food court of the Peacock Cafe in 2016.

This facility was the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in the area that was not located in the food court of a college campus or airport. Zara launched its first shop in the state of Michigan in 2017, and it is located on the first and second floors of the Macy’s wing. Crate & Barrel went out of business on January 6, 2020.

It was supposed to end on January 15, 2020, however it ended earlier than expected because of the high volume of purchases. The brand relocated its operations to the Twelve Oaks Mall, where it will run a temporary store until June 2021, when its permanent site in Twelve Oaks will open for business.
