Why did Northlake Mall open in 2005?

History – The Northlake Mall was the first shopping center to open in the northern part of Mecklenburg County in 2005, and it was designed to address the region’s dearth of retail options. The idea of constructing a mall in this area had been kicked around for many years, but the plans were never put into action until only a few years before the mall was scheduled to open.

  1. It derives its name from the flourishing neighborhoods that can be found in North Charlotte and the Lake Norman region, and it has grown to become the most popular shopping destination in both areas.
  2. After the announcement that Carolina Place Mall will soon be getting an H&M store, it was reported in 2013 that Northlake Mall would be getting Charlotte’s second H&M store.

The Charlotte metropolitan region would not have any other H&M locations outside these two stores and the one that is scheduled to open in the SouthPark Mall. It was announced in June 2014 that Taubman Centers will sell Northlake Mall to Starwood Capitol Group as part of a portfolio of malls for a total acquisition price of $1.4 billion for the portfolio as a whole.
