Where did Barber road finish in Kentucky Derby?
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A local jockey had a fantastic run in the Kentucky Derby, and now he’s back in his hometown, where it all started. On Tuesday, Rey Gutierrez was spotted visiting the Finger Lakes Gaming and Race Track in Farmington. Born and raised in Victor, Gutierrez got his start in the horse industry by assisting his father, who worked as a trainer in the area.
After leaving college, he immediately started competing in races, and in the previous four years, he has won approximately 500 events all across the nation. Gutierrez rode Barber Road at the Kentucky Derby. The horse finished in sixth place despite having odds of 30-1 to win the race. “My father and I would sit just down the road and right here to speak about it as a dream, but it felt very remote being from here simply something maybe in another life we’d talk about, but we accomplished it,” Gutierrez said.
“It’s something we had dreamed of, and we did it.” “Now all we can do is keep our fingers crossed that we’ll be able to go every year with celebrities and other notable figures. It was a tremendous privilege to be there, but because to that experience, we now have the groundwork to return there year.” The next two races that make up horse racing’s Triple Crown are the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes, and Gutierrez will return to Kentucky to get ready for those races.
